Author Biography
Erno Kolodny-Nagy grew up in a war-torn Hungary, surrounded by books, bombing raids, occupying armies, political and religious persecution, and the takeover of his parents’ business by the communist government. He fell in love with music, literature, and started to write poetry while studying at the Benedictine High School in Pannonhalma.
After graduating, Erno became a factory worker in Budapest, trying to improve his chances of admission to the state university. During the short-lived 1956 Hungarian revolution against Soviet oppression, he joined the freedom fighters. In late November, he fled across the Iron Curtain and immigrated to the United States of America.
Working and studying at the University of Louisville, Erno earned a bachelors degree. Having completed his architectural studies at Yale University, he was employed by several firms and the New Haven City Plan Department as an architect and urban planner.
In 1980, Erno moved with his family to Washington DC, starting a busy, three-decade professional career in government service, first on major postal facilities planning and design, and later on the master planning and phased renovation of the six million square-foot Pentagon.
After successful completion of the Pentagon Renovation, Erno retired from public service and set up this website for sharing his poetry and first novel with as many people as possible. He also expects to write his second novel.
